![]() Hi, I'm Paul Beaulieu and this is my personal web site. To be truthful, I guess my little sister deserves the credit for the inspiration. She had a site and I didn't. Actually, she had two sites (but she had given one up because it was almost too successful and was becoming more work than fun). One of the major reasons for launching the site was that the teasing over the dinner table ("neener neener") during holidays was becoming just a little too much to bare! (Who says sibling rivalries aren't productive?!?!?) Thus began the various projects (of little importance)... Originally, the plan was for the site to focus on two things. First, the site would be a place for me and my friend Kelly to gloriously share the results of our picture a day for a year effort. The plan was for each of us to take one photo of something happening in our lives each day for an entire year - sort of a photo journal of the "year that wouldn't suck so much!" (As an aside, it did.) After starting out with extreme enthusiasm and excitement, we both quickly found our lives to be extremely repetitive and fairly boring in nature. As you might imagine, this was somewhat depressing. We both stopped taking pictures independent of each other about two weeks into the project. Second, the space would be a place for Kelly and I to chart the growth of the two aloe plants that we had bought - sort of a contest to see who could grow their's the biggest. Unfortunately, there were many setbacks with this effort as well; such as accusations of cheating by me from Kelly and other friends based on the belief that my method of measuring and charting the progress of my plant was grossly inaccurate (I still categorically deny these charges!). However, all these setbacks were relatively minor compared to the tragic death of both of the aloes approximately two weeks into the project. Sadly, this put a real damper on the contest. I think the initial site launched way back when in October - November of 2000. It has gone through many designs and colors schemes. When the weblog was launched, it was orignally driven using Blogger and then Greymatter. I am currently using MovableType which I would highly recommend. In case you are wondering, I'm the one on the left. The picture was taken on the top of Leenane Hill on my visit to Ireland in 2001 to visit two of my best friends Ronan and Sinead. The view, the trip, and especially the hospitality were all fantastic. 2 Aldgate Drive is the address where I grew up. Hence the name for the site. I currently live just outside of Boston in Somerville, MA If for some reason you want to reach me, I can be emailed at paul AT 2aldgate DOT net. |
